Wanjiru Mbugua-Karani: Pioneering Tennis Leadership in Kenya and Africa
Wanjiru Mbugua-Karani is a former Kenyan tennis champion who has transitioned into influential sports administration roles. She currently serves as the Secretary-General of Tennis Kenya and was appointed as Team Kenya's CEO for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Her leadership extends beyond national boundaries; in October 2023, she was elected Vice President of the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT), becoming the first woman to hold this position. Concurrently, she assumed the role of President of Eastern Africa (Zone IV) in the tennis federation. ​ Wanjiru's commitment to advancing women's roles in sports is evident through her involvement with the CAT Women in Sports Commission and the International Tennis Federation's Gender Equality Committee. Her academic credentials include a Bachelor's degree in Communication from Daystar University and an Executive Master's in Sports Organisation Management from Université Catholique de Louvain.
